new discoveries

wandering around the mt. washington neighborhood, one of those wonderful discoveries happened. so much of the architecture that inhabits our city villages and neighborhoods are speculative throw-ups (pun intended), cheaply built, badly designed habitates (more about commercial properties later) that fail to interact with our great landscape and bengin weather.

if you look at drawings from the original settlers, they built abodes that took full advantage of the natural environment, as well as providing an interior that interacts with the same surroundings. the architecture of the modernist movement provided a mid-century answer to that same environmental setting; an altenative that melded the modernist sensibilities with the spanish and mexican abodes were created by the california ranch house, taking advantage of the natural materials and colors, with the design asthetics of the modernist housing design elements.

the current architects of the city, responsive to natural ecology, new building techniques and materials, are building new housing reflective of these needs, and the clients expectations. one house being built in the mt. washingotn neighborhood is known as the nobhillhause, http://nobhillhaus.blogspot.com/ designed by local architects for their own residence. in their blog accompanying the ongoing design, have created a contemporary residence with the city's first approved greywater system. the design and construction elements can be followed at the blog,

other noteworthy housing projects will be followed, in order to support these ongoing developments with as much exposure as possible.

know this now about this blog!

it is the intent, in part, that this blog begins the steps to bring down that great archaic institution known as the County of Los Angeles, the great albatross that hangs about our lady's city's neck, attempting to choke the life out of our great city. as useless a government institution that can possible exist, this 18th century outmoded model of agrarian government has long outlived its usefulness, that is proped up due the special interests groups that foolishly think that this cesspool of gross ineficiencies will continue, know that its untimely demise will be soon upon its soul!

first thoughts for a new day!

today was yet another day in the city; in the late afternoon, picked up a copy of the l.a. weekly, purused the articles, with the only one that grabed the senses was a short piece on the neighborhood councils of the city. this one dealt with the studio city neigborhood council, and the results of a clash of personalities. it is interesting in these so-called grassroots org's, that some of the worst conduct of individuals can be found.

as the details were sketchy, as is the sound bites journalism that l.a. weekly subscribes to, it is one of the those relationship arguments, as in there is her side, there is his side, and then there is the truth. sounded less to do with the business of the studio city needs, wants, desires, then a collection of different mind-sets preferring to clash with on another, then getting on with the business at hand.

at least, these neighborhood councils are a chip at the faceless wall of stone, that the city council has built to hide its agenda; now if we can organize a citizens action committee to take on the warlords of the council, and empower a true city council, worthy of this incredible, diverse, and mutifaceted municipality.

more of the why, how, and process at a later date!

getting started!

...so here i am, starting up a blog, all about our lady of the angels ciudad; too often what is known about our fair city is filtered by those who want others to think that they have the inside skinny about the doings and happenings of our metropolis.

now comes writings and other goodies from a native son of our city, set admist, mid-center along the coast of the serene republic of the isle of the two californias. herein, the stories as seen and experienced by the many children of our lady's city will be told as only a true insider would know.

for now, these tales, and other indgredients will have to wait, while i go muse over future contents to be offered up!
